远古时候，在东胜神洲有一座风景秀丽的花果山，山顶上有一块巨石。

From the beginning of time, a rock had sat high on top of a mountain.

石头长期吸收日月精华、天地灵气。

The sun, the moon, Heaven, and Earth all worked their magic on the rock.

有一天，巨石突然裂开，产下一石卵，石卵被风一吹，变成一个石猴。

One day the rock split open. Inside was a monkey.

日子一天天过去，这个石猴在花果山上行走跳跃，饿了采花果，渴了喝泉水，过得很是自在。

As time passed, Monkey learned to walk, run, and climb. He drank from streams and ate grasses and leaves. He gathered fruit and explored caves and mountaintops.

后来就和山上的猴子成了朋友。

He became friends with all the other monkeys and apes.

一天，天气很热，石猴和一群猴子去山涧里洗澡。

One very hot morning, all the monkeys and apes ran to the stream.

那涧水十分清澈。水流冲击着石头，激起了朵朵水花。

The water rolled and bounced over the rocks.

没过一会儿，一只猴子挠着头说：“有谁知道这条小溪的源头在哪里吗？”

After a few minutes, one monkey scratched her head. “Does anyone know where the stream begins?”

猴子们非常好奇。

They all looked at one another and shook their heads.

于是顺着山涧往上跑，去寻找它的源头。众猴顺着涧流爬了一会儿，发现一个水花飞溅的瀑布。

Everyone jumped out of the water and ran alongside the stream just following one monkeys advice until they reached an enormous waterfall.

众猴说：“哪一个有本事的，钻进去找到瀑布的源头，又不伤到身体，我们就拜他为王！”

“Whoever can jump through and came back alive will be our king,” said Monkeys.
