玄奘受众僧推选主持水陆大会，超度亡灵

The monk was reading old religious texts to a small group of people.

观音菩萨乔装成一名僧侣。她打断了唐僧的讲经

A woman interrupted the monk.

说道：“玄奘法师，我看你只会‘小乘佛法’，不会大乘佛法。”

“Why are you reading those old texts?” she asked. “Don’t you know about the True Scriptures?”

玄奘听了，走下台来，对菩萨施礼请教道：“未曾听说‘大乘佛法’。请老师父指点。”

The monk walked over to the woman. “What are the True Scriptures?” He asked.

菩萨说：“我有三藏大乘佛法，可度亡灵升天。”

The woman looked at the monk carefully. “They contain many lessons. People who learn the lessons never have to suffer again.”

唐僧听后又问：“那可否将经传授与我？”

“Do you have them here?” asked the monk.

菩萨说：“真经在西方天竺大雷音寺我佛如来那里。”

“No,” said the woman. “They are with Buddha in the Western Paradise. Someone must travel to the Thunderclap Monastery to get them.”

菩萨将锦斓袈裟与九环锡杖赠予唐僧：“你是虔诚之人，可愿西天取经？”

She took a robe out of her bag, “Put this on.” said the woman. “You are a true believer, will you make the journey?”

唐僧立即请旨前往

“Yes,” said the monk, looking down at the glowing robe. “It will be an honor.”

菩萨驾起祥云，直上九霄，在半空中现身

The woman rose into the air and changed form.

现场唐太宗深感菩萨慈悲，真经法力无穷，双手合十对面行礼

The emperor and everyone else in the room bowed. Guanyin rose higher and then disappeared.

翌日，唐太宗与玄奘结拜为兄弟

The next morning there was a huge feast. The emperor sat beside the monk. “Your journey will help our empire greatly,” said the emperor. “From now on, I will think of you as my brother.

唐王亲自送玄奘出城

A big crowd gathered to say good-bye. “Good luck brother,” said the Tang Emperor. The Tang Monk climbed onto a horse and rode toward the west.
